In a landscape filled with different real estate investment voices, how can you decide which strategy is best for your hard-earned money?
After copious research and deliberation, I found that “buy and hold” rentals were the right approach for my goals for a few reasons: The mortgage on the property can stay fixed over the life of the loan while rents consistently increase, property values generally increase over the long term if purchased correctly, and cash flows can be relatively consistent over time. Plus, people will always need a place to live.
These factors meant that if I made good decisions, I could retire with a residual income stream and a consistently increasing net worth.
Fast forward a few years later, and my decision to invest in real estate has fundamentally change the trajectory of my life in multiple ways: It has allowed me to step off of the lucrative corporate finance track to pursue work that is more aligned with my values, it has helped me surround myself with a like-minded and fiercely supportive community, and it has given me the opportunity to build a business with people I truly like and admire.
